Week 9 - June 5th, 2026

Hello, Desert Class families!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

During our morning meetings, we sang our hello song, weather song, and months of the year song. We also discussed classroom responsibilities, with students taking on roles such as caretaker, line leader, and lunch helper. The students had lots of fun singing and dancing to “Dynamite” and “Field Day Dance No. 2” as we practiced for our upcoming Sports Day.

In our afternoon meetings, we read Goal! My First Soccer Game. The students were encouraged to cy joining in with repeated phrases and actions throughout the story.

Preschool

Language & Literacy

This week in Language & Literacy, we learned the letters Ck and practiced recognizing their sound through a variety of hands-on activities. The students practiced identifying words containing the /ck/ sound and continued developing their early phonics skills through games, sensory activities, and fine motor tasks.

The students enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the week, including playdough letter formation, a C is for Cardboard craft, a K is for King craft, blending jumps, and a letter sorting activity. A favorite activity this week was the K is for King craft. The students thought the large googly eyes made the letter look especially silly and had lots of fun creating their kings.

Maths

Preschool

This week in Math, we focused on reviewing the numbers 1–10. The students practiced number recognition, counting, and number order through a variety of hands-on activities and movement games.

The students enjoyed creating number crafts, number stamping activities, using sticks and elastic bands for counting, and building with counting blocks. One favorite activity this week was number stamping. The students also enjoyed using dot markers to trace and decorate numbers while strengthening their number recognition skills.

Topic Exploration

This week’s theme was Ball Sports. We explored different types of ball sports and discussed the equipment and skills used in each one.
The students created their own basketball game using a cup, string, and a ping pong ball. They worked hard to draw basketball net lines on their cups before assembling their craft. Once finished, the students enjoyed challenging themselves to shake the cup and try to get the ball into the basket.
We also explored soccer by visiting the Big Room and practicing kicking a ball toward a goal. The students had lots of fun developing their kicking skills and cheering on their friends.

This week, we also spent time during topic exploration preparing for Sports Day. The students practiced some of the events they will participate in and worked hard learning and rehearsing their dances. Everyone is becoming more confident and excited for the big day!
