Week 6 - May 15th, 2026

Hello, Dune Buddies and families!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

During our morning meetings, we sang our hello song, weather song, and day of the week song. We also discussed the weather, the day, and the date together. The students learned about classroom responsibilities and took on important roles such as caretaker, line leader, and lunch helper.

In addition, this week the students attended a morning assembly led by Ms. Tae and Ms. Rumbi. They learned about the character trait, “I am a thinker.” We practiced this by mixing paints together to discover what colors they would create. The students also enjoyed dancing together to “Boom Chicka Boom.”

During our afternoon meetings, we read My Body by Jill McDonalds, where the students were encouraged to participate by joining in with repeated phrases and actions. We ended each day by singing our goodbye song.

Language & Literacy

Preschool

In Language and Literacy, we focused on the letter P. The children enjoyed a variety of games and fine motor activities to practice and reinforce their learning. These activities supported letter recognition, helped them identify the sound the letter makes, and encouraged them to connect the sound to words they hear. This week, the students used playdough to form the letter P and participated in activities such as Magnet Phonics Fishing, Phonics Scoop, Egg Picking, Pass the Ball, and a Giant Board Game. The favorite activity this week was Egg Picking. The children used kitchen tongs to pick up Easter eggs with letter sounds hidden inside. They then shared the sounds they found with the group, helping to build both fine motor skills and phonics confidence.

Maths

Preschool

In Math, we reviewed numbers 1–5. The students practiced counting to 5 using a 10 frame and a number line, and they counted actions and items around the classroom. The children participated in a variety of counting activities, including number matching, 10 frame sensory bags, and counting graphs. These activities helped strengthen number recognition, counting skills, and one-to-one correspondence. The favorite activity this week was quantity and symbol matching. The students counted the shapes on sticky notes and placed them on the correct poster with the matching numeric symbol.

Topic Exploration

Our theme this week was “All About Me: My Body.” For topic exploration, we participated in a variety of science-based activities and crafts that the students really enjoyed. We explored the body using sensory bags while learning about the digestive system and how our stomach breaks down food. The students also made a stomach craft and added pictures of healthy food choices. We conducted a science experiment about sound and how it travels to the ear using a speaker, sand, and cling film. The students were excited to watch the speaker vibrations move the sand. We then made mini guitars using paper cups and elastic bands to demonstrate how sound is created through vibrations. The children also learned more about the body by creating a large class poster. We traced the outlines of classmates’ bodies, added organs inside, and colored them together. We explored the heart by making a mini heart model and created a lung model for the students to take home. Finally, we learned that our bodies have bones by creating an X-ray craft using white oil pastels and black paint. The students completed their artwork by adding a picture of their face.
