Hello, Desert Class
families!
We had a successful end to our first week of school, and everyone seems to be adjusting well. Some friends were a little upset at the beginning, but gradually everyone is becoming more comfortable with the routine and environment.
We had lots of fun getting to know one another, and I’m sure our bonds will continue to strengthen throughout the year.
Morning & Afternoon Meeting
We start our day with a hello song, followed by discussions about the day, date, and weather. This week, we focused on getting used to our new environment and worked together to learn our classroom rules. For our movement song, the students had lots of fun dancing with scarves!
In the afternoon meeting, we read the story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, where the students were encouraged to participate by joining in with the repeated phrases and actions. We ended the day by singing our goodbye song.
Language & Literacy
Preschool
In Language and Literacy, we focused on the letter S. The children enjoyed a variety of games and fine motor activities to help practice and reinforce their learning. These activities supported letter recognition, helped them identify the sound it makes, and encouraged them to link the sound to words they hear.
We took part in letter hunts, played Red Light, Green Light, explored the shape of letters through playdough, and used clothespins for fine motor activities.
Maths
Preschool
For maths, we focused on matching and sorting. The children took part in a variety of fun, active games as well as fine motor activities to support their development.
They learned how to sort items by shape, color, and size, using different classroom objects and grouping them into their own categories.
Topic Exploration
Our theme this week was Back to School. The children took part in a variety of fun and engaging activities.
We made birthday wall tags, created fridge magnets using photos from their first week, did an interesting Leakproof bag science experiment, and even made our own squishy sensory toys.
Free Play
Here are some more pictures of friends playing together in the classroom, in the Big Room, at the park, and enjoying other topics, events and activities at school.
