Week 3 - April 24th, 2026

Hello, Jungle Class families!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

It was a wonderfully splendid week as we all joyously jumped, sang, and danced along to the many songs in our morning meetings. Everyone also contributed to our open discussions about the season, weather, our mood, etc. Their confidence and diligence is growing every single day!

In addition, this week, we also had our Emergency-Earthquake Drill wherein, all grades evacuated and went to Higashi- Nibancho Elementary School. Moreover, we also had our very first field trip together with Desert friends -Sweet potato Planting at Horizon Izumi! It was wonderful how our friends participated and listened well to our teachers' instructions both in the drill and in the field trip. In the afternoon, we ended our day by reading a storybook and singing a goodbye song.

Language & Literacy

Pre-K

This week, we kick started our lesson through lots of engaging and fun activities to review our phonics and sight word knowledge. First, we read our Raz-Kids book entitled, "Too Many Sweets" , talked about the pictures and the words in the book and did a related worksheet after. We also practiced predicting outcomes by asking what will happen next and asking WH-questions to hone their reading comprehension. Then, we learned about our literacy lessons. These are the activities that we did: Vowel a and Beginning Sounds game, Letter formation through Mat man song, and phonics worksheet. . Last, we began using our different CVC or consonant -vowel-consonant booklets to hone our writing and letter recognition skills throughout this term.

Regarding literacy this week, we continued reading our book about breakfast, taking time to identify short vowels on each page. Following our reading of the book we played some games that further polished our ability to pronounce and read short vowels. Our lessons included fun activities in which we colored words containing the consonant Tt, short vowels such as “aeiou”, and crafts in which we made houses filled with new vocabulary words containing “a” vowels. We also took some time to practice writing sentences in which we copied and constructed our own sentences based on vocabulary found within the book we read this week.

Maths

Pre-K

This week, we continued to enhance our on number recognition, rote counting, rational counting and ordering numbers specifically, we begin focusing from numbers 11 to 20 since they have mastered 1 to 10 numbers.. We had various activities to hone our numeracy skills as well as our fine motor skills. These are the activities that we did for this week: I Spy with Numbers, rational counting through manipulatives, doing related worksheets to master numbers 1 to 20 for group activities, and our Math booklets in which most of our friends are almost finished too!

For week 3 we continued our focus on comparing quantities by utilizing “greater than, less than, or equal to” terms and strategies in order to better understand values. We also took time to review numbers past 10, as well as practicing addition. We completed a number of assignments, worked on our booklets, played some physical-movement based games, and made craft to accomplish our goals. Some examples include matching our dances to a number in order to solve addition problems, making a garden in which we used bumble bees facing amounts of flowers to determine which numbers/amount of flowers were greater, less, or equal. We also used such crafts to further practice our fine motor skills, cutting, gluing, and assembling our craft.

Topic Exploration

For this week, we also talked about ourselves entitled, "All About Me". These are the activities that we did: listening and making beats through some music, making our self-portraits using colored paper for an open-ended activity, All About Me headdress and drawing myself activity using their imagination and completing their faces!
