Hello, Desert Class families!
We’ve entered Week 2, and the children are becoming much more settled and comfortable in the classroom. They have mostly gotten used to the daily routine and are having more fun playing together. It’s wonderful to see everyone engaging more in the activities, we’re so proud of the progress they’re making as they adjust!
Morning & Afternoon Meeting
This week during our morning meetings, we sang our hello song, weather song, and day of the week song. We also discussed classroom responsibilities, with students taking on roles such as caretaker, line leader, and lunch helper. In addition we had a morning assembly this week led by the pond teachers we learned about the being an inquirer character trait the students had a great time doing a shape sorting activity and dancing together.
In the afternoon meetings, we read Deer at the Brook and Are you my mother?, where the students were encouraged to participate by joining in with repeated phrases and actions. We ended each day by singing our goodbye song.
Language & Literacy
Preschool
In Language and Literacy, we focused on the letter A. The children enjoyed a variety of games and fine motor activities to practice and reinforce their learning. These activities supported letter recognition, helped them identify the sound it makes, and encouraged them to link the sound to words they hear.
We took part in activities such as pom-pom tweezers letter formation, ring toss, kick the cup, sensory writing, pin the word post, and Post-it letter sorting.
The children’s favorite activity this week was sensory writing. We used shaving foam and sticks to practice writing the letter, and they were excited to explore the texture. Many of them were eager to keep trying again and again!
Maths
Preschool
In Maths, we focused on matching and sorting. The children learned how to sort items by shape, color, and size, using a variety of classroom objects to create their own groups.
We also practiced identifying the “odd one out,” encouraging the children to think about why certain items were different. Activities included non-identical matching, shape sorting, “Jump to the Different Shape,” beanbag toss, and item sorting.
Topic Exploration
Our theme this week was Spring. The children took part in a variety of fun and engaging activities. We began by singing a springtime song, followed by a range of craft, science, and music experiences.
The children created cherry blossom trees, made flowers using cupcake wrappers, explored a “blooming flowers” experiment, crafted bird nests with eggs, and participated in a spring-themed rhythmic music class.
